Luz A. Padilla earned her MD from the Universidad de Guadalajara and an MSPH in Applied Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, where she serves as the course master for undergraduate and graduate level courses. She is the Program Director for the MD/MPH coordinated degree. Dr. Padilla also serves as Chair of UAB's Institutional Review Board (IRB) and participates in various committees across campus. In addition to her primary appointment, she holds a secondary position in the Department of Surgery, specifically the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. In this role, she serves as the Director of Surgical Research for the Joseph S. Bruno Pediatric Heart Center of Alabama. Her research focuses on congenital heart disease, pediatric cardiology, and xenotransplantation.
