Dr. Amanda Velazquez, MD, FTOS, is Director of Obesity Medicine at the Center for Weight Management and Metabolic Health at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Surgery. She earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine after completing her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with Honors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Velazquez went on to complete her internal medicine residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, followed by fellowship training in nutrition and obesity medicine at Boston Medical Center.
Dr. Velazquez is a internationally recognized leader in obesity medicine and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and contributes to the Endocrine Society’s obesity clinical practice guideline efforts. As a clinician, researcher, educator, and patient advocate, she is committed to advancing health equity, expanding access to obesity treatment, and empowering healthcare professionals, trainees, and patients through education. She also leads Cedars-Sinai initiatives focused on food as medicine, including expanding access to healthy foods and education on nutritious food preparation. She is dedicated to advancing evidence-based, compassionate care and reducing weight bias in healthcare.
