Dr. Chloë Ballesté Delpierre, MD, PhD is the Medical Director of the DTI Foundation (Donation and Transplantation Institute) and Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona, with more than 20 years of experience in organ donation and transplantation. An internationally recognized expert, she provides strategic medical leadership for global training, research, and consultancy programmes, and has led large-scale international collaborations in over 80 countries, working closely with governments, international organizations, and healthcare institutions to develop ethical, sustainable, and high-performing donation and transplantation systems.
She previously served as Director of International Cooperation and Development at DTI, where she designed and implemented multi-country initiatives and coordinated more than eight EU-funded projects. Her work spans capacity building, governance, quality assurance, and system implementation, including long-term collaborations in regions such as the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, and Europe. She has also played a key role in global programmes such as the TTS–ISN Sister Transplant Centers and multiple WHO- and PAHO-related initiatives.
At the University of Barcelona, she coordinates the International Master’s Degree in Organ, Tissue and Cell Donation and Transplantation and contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate education. She has supervised numerous research projects and has been actively involved in academic teaching and research since 2011. Clinically and scientifically linked to Hospital Clínic de Barcelona since 2006, her work includes coordination of European research projects and contributions to innovation in donation systems and professional training.
Dr. Ballesté Delpierre holds a PhD in Medicine and an Advanced Management Program (ESADE). She is an active member of leading international societies, was elected Councillor of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) from 2021 to 2025, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the ESOT Congress 2027 scientific programme.
