Shaifali Sandal, MD, is an Associate Professor, a transplant nephrologist, and an FRQS-supported and CIHR-funded clinician investigator at the McGill University Health Centre. She has expertise in health system research and has established a research program called BES3T-KCare (Building, Equitable, Stronger and Sustainable health Systems in Transplantation and Kidney Care) at the MUHC. The overarching goals of this program are to strengthen health systems that deliver kidney care to patients and address inequities in access to kidney care. Her current work focuses on three arcs of inquiry: 1) living donor kidney transplantation; 2) graft failure and re-transplantation; and 3) climate action and environmentally sustainable kidney care. She has secured over $2 million in peer-reviewed funding as principal applicant from major granting agencies to support multiple interconnected research initiatives, in addition to contributing to more than $3 million in funding as a co-applicant supporting collaborative research. Her work has generated >90 manuscripts published/accepted in leading nephrology and transplantation journals. She is the recipient of the Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Santé Chercheuses-boursières cliniciennes - Junior 1 and the New Investigator Lectureship award from the Canadian Society of Nephrology. She is also the medical lead of the Patient Partner platform of the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program and Chair of the Awards and Grants Committee of The Transplantation Society.
