Prof. Hanne Scholz is a senior researcher at Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo, and a guest professor at Uppsala University. She leads the laboratory for the clinical production of insulin-producing pancreatic islet cells isolated from donor tissue for the treatment of patients with type 1 diabetes. Prof. Scholz has extensive experience in developing advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and has played a key role in several ATMPs currently in clinical trials. Her research group focuses on novel cell-based therapies aimed at improving the treatment of patients with type 1 diabetes both nationally and internationally, with particular emphasis on stem-cell differentiation into functional insulin-producing islet cells in vitro. She has authored several book chapters and published a large number of scientific articles in the field. She serves as President-Elect of the International Pancreas and Islet Transplantation Association (IPITA), Co-Chair of the Nordic Pancreas Islet Transplant Group within Scandiatransplant, and a member of the Oslo Diabetes Research Center. She previously served as a councilor of the European Society for Organ Transplantation
